I was thrilled to take part in the panel discussion “The Future of Bilingual Education: Best Practice Models from the U.S. and Abroad”” organized by the Goethe-Institut New York. The symposium gathered teachers, school aministrators and parents. It was also the chance to support NYC’s first German dual language program opening next year at P.S. 17 in Brooklyn. I was happy to moderate a panel on the promotion of bilingual education in New York City and to support at the same time the Russian dual language program (DLP) initiative.
The panel was organized by the Russian DLP initiative and the Harriman Institute at Columbia University. The event focused on establishing a Russian dual language program at a public elementary school on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, and invited parents, educators, and community organizations. On March 20, 2016, I was honored with the Prix de la Diversité Culturelle, awarded by the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie and the Committee of French-speaking Ambassadors to the United Nations for my work in bilingual education – aka the Bilingual Revolution – and my efforts to promote French in New York. لقد كان من دواعي سروري زيارة مدرسة PS 30 Mary White Ovington School بحي بروكلين و التعرف عن قرب علي البرنامج المزدوج لتعلم اللغة العربية. و أعجبت كثيرا بالعمل الرائع الذي تقوم به إدارة المدرسة و الفريق المسئول عن هذا البرنامج. البرنامج المزدوج لتعلم اللغة العربية متاح حاليا للطلبة في مرحلة الحضانة وحتى الصف الثاني الابتدائي و لكن نطاقه سوف يتسع ليشمل كل المراحل التعليمية.

I was thrilled to visit the Arabic dual language program at P.S. 30 Mary White Ovington School in Brooklyn, and I was very impressed by the school leadership team as well as the dual language program’s team who are doing an amazing job. The program is now in K, 1st and 2nd grade, and it will keep on growing.

MS256 is also called The Joan of Arc school as it is located on 93rd street, a few blocks from Joan of Arc Island on Riverside Park in New York’s Upper West Side.
