Embracing Bilingualism, A Global Perspective
It was exciting to be part in a conference on bilingualism organized by Community School District 14 Superintendent, Alicja Winnicki, and the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in New York.
District 14 in Brooklyn is the home of numerous dual language programs including Chinese at P.S. 250, French at P.S. 110, German at P.S. 18, Japanese at P.S. 147, Polish at P.S. 34, programs which are actually featured in my book, The Bilingual Revolution. Philanthropy in Education: Interaction with the Public Sector
I recently took part in a panel on philanthropy and education during the annual conference of the Comparative and International Education Society in Mexico City (CIES 2018), Re-Mapping Global Education: South-North Dialogue. The panel focused on the interplay at both policy and delivery level between the public sector and the philanthropic one. Funding to higher education is dependent on both national and global shifts in the grantors’ country, and in the receptiveness of African governments and institutions to the modalities of private funding. Neo-liberal trends influencing foundations have promoted the notion of the knowledge economy, which sees higher education as crucial for economic growth.

Global Change Starts with You!” The two-day conference was about promoting world language proficiency, helping teacher practice and leadership, and more.

Empowering Families and School Communities for a Future of Education in Two Languages
I was thrilled to give a keynote speech during the annual conference of the New York State Association for Bilingual Education (NYSABE) on March 15. The theme chosen for NYSABE’s 41st Annual Conference was Uncovering the Talents of Multilingual Learners from Early Childhood through High School and Beyond.
