Salon du Livre Paris, one of the largest book expo in the world, provided a great venue for my book, Partenaires inégaux, and opened new opportunities for the upcoming translations of The Bilingual Revolution and The Gift of Languages. As an author, it is always rewarding to see one’s books’ journey through book fairs and events. Our books live a life of their own. It’s also exciting to see a growing interest for books like mine which provide fresh perspective on important topics such as the rise of dual-language education, and the role of philanthropy on higher education.

I was able to meet with my editor, Pascal Rouleau of Éditions de la Maison des sciences de l’homme who was promoting my book Partenaires inégaux : Fondations américaines et universités en Afrique during the Salon. This book, which was first released in English by Palgrave-MacMillan, profiles the main American foundations investing in African higher education, those with long experience in the sector, and the most recent ones looking to impact universities in Africa. During my visit to Fondation Maison des sciences de l’homme I was also able to record a book talk which should air soon on Canal-U.
I was very fortunate to meet with the Sharjah delegation, which included Mohamed Noor Hersi, Faisal Al Naboodah, Seth Russo, and Ahmed Al Ameri, Chairman of Sharjah Book Authority, and prepare the groundwork for the Arabic edition of The Bilingual Revolution: The Future of Education is in Two Languages. I am looking forward to working with this group in the near future and hopefully take part in the Sharjah Book Fair which has become one of the leading book fairs in the world. I was delighted to exchange with Sheikah Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi who is also vice-president of the International Publishers Association. Thanks to her leadership, Sharjah is the 2019 UNESCO World Book Capital and a change-maker in the publishing industry. Finally, I was honored to have been invited to Sultan Al Qasimi’s incredible book launch dinner at Musée d’Orsay.
