The things one finds cleaning one’s closet! Here is a certificate I received in 1999 for participating in the International Symposium on Bilingualism and Biliteracy through Schooling organized by Professor Ofelia García and Long Island University. At the time, I was in charge of Ecole Bilingue’s Middle and Upper schools in Cambridge, Massachusetts (the school is now called the International School of Boston). The symposium was a way for me to catch some air after a busy semester and connect with a community of bilingual education researchers and practitioners from all over the world. I was very excited to attend this event and learn from the best, and I did. I not only left recharged and inspired, I left changed.

Continue reading “Le deuxième Numéro Spécial de NORRAG vient de paraître en français !”Collaboration and connection-building were at the center of the Network of Immersion and CLIL Educators’ Inaugural Conference in Seville, Spain. CLIL and immersion teachers from different countries were able to learn and share experience during this two-day conference hosted at Centro Universitario EUSA. Professional development is key to successful dual-language programs and opportunities to connect across languages and across countries are scarce. Amanda Seewald and her team wanted to change that and offer new opportunities for teachers to grow.
There is nothing more enriching than an exchange of perspectives with educators from all over the world, particularly when it is on the topic of bilingual education and the teaching of languages. On July 10, I was invited to present my book, La Révolution bilingue, to a group of educators from 20 countries during Francophonia’s gala event in Nice, France. The teachers, who specialize in the teaching of French in their respective countries, were receiving intensive professional development during the week. All showed great interest for multilingualism and the dual-language model that has taken the United States by storm.
