Embracing Bilingualism, A Global Perspective

It was exciting to be part in a conference on bilingualism organized by Community School District 14 Superintendent, Alicja Winnicki, and the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in New York.

District 14 in Brooklyn is the home of numerous dual language programs including Chinese at P.S. 250, French at P.S. 110, German at P.S. 18, Japanese at P.S. 147, Polish at P.S. 34, programs which are actually featured in my book, The Bilingual Revolution.

Niedawny artykuł Radia Polska omawia rozwój szkolnych oddziałów dwujęzycznych w Nowym Jorku, a zwłaszcza klas angielsko-polskich w Greenpoint i Ridegwood.

“Creating a Bilingual Revolution in Our Schools,” my Interview for Liz Daly’s Culture Digest

I was interviewed earlier this Month by Elizabeth Rose Daly for her blog, Liz daly’s Culture Digest. I spoke about my new book The Bilingual Revolution, the development of dual-language programs in New York City public schools, and the various models applied by the different linguistic communities I worked with (Polish, German, Japanese, etc.).

The Bilingual Revolution: Adopt a Translation Campaign!

Today is International Translation Day which is celebrated every year on September 30 to show solidarity of the worldwide translation community in an effort to promote the translation profession in different countries. This is an opportunity to display pride in a profession that is becoming increasingly essential in the era of progressing globalization.

To mark this day, I have decided to give my new book for free both in its original English and its French ebook editions for everyone who will contribute to The Bilingual Revolution’s  Adopt a Translation campaign.  The campaign’s goal is to translate The Bilingual Revolution in 8 languages: Arabic, Chinese, German, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Russian, and Spanish.

The first Polish dual language program at P.S. 34 in Brooklyn

This morning, I visited the Polish dual language program (DLP) at P.S. 34 Oliver H. Perry Elementary in Greenpoint, Brooklyn thanks to principal Carmen Asselta. In its first year, the school’s DLP showed impressive results, and inspiring dedication among teachers, staff, parents, and a school leader with a great appreciation for multilingual education.
