Arabic Language Learning in Europe: Realities of Policy & Practice (Brussels)

I was thrilled to participate in the symposium on Arabic Language Learning in Europe: Realities of Policy & Practice, which took place in Brussels on May 8-9. As a language enthusiast, I have always been interested in the importance of language learning in education policies. I believe that the recognition of Arabic as the fifth most spoken language in the world is a significant development that warrants attention from language educators and policymakers.

[Upcoming Talk] 2021 European Language Label – Brussels

My next talk is on April 28 for the 2021 European Language Label ceremony. The conference and presentation are organized by The European Commission, Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, FOREM, Bruxelles Formation, AEF-Europe and Epale. The aim of the European Language Label is to promote and encourage innovative initiatives in the teaching and learning of languages. It rewards new approaches in the field of language teaching, contributes to their notoriety and thus promotes good practices. By supporting innovative initiatives at local and national level, the Label seeks to improve the quality of language education in Europe.

European Priorities and the Potential of Multilingual Education

On September 26 –the European Day of Languages set to help raise awareness for multilingualism in Europe– I was invited to Brussels for the 2nd European Education Summit and presented a U.S. perspective on the growth and potential of dual-language education, particularly as European nations seek to adopt new educational approaches to educating the youth while accepting more immigrant families into their school systems.
