The Bilingual Revolution – The Future of Education is in (at least) Two Languages. Zoom webinar hosted by the European Commission’s Training and Development Directorate on Tuesday, 28 April from 16:00 CET to 17:30 CET | 10:00-11:30 (EST)

Speaker: Fabrice Jaumont, author, educator and researcher
Discussants: Paulien Detailleur, teacher in the Dutch immersion programme, Institut de la Vierge Fidèle, Section Fondamentale, Brussels, and Carrie Borchard, English language coordinator at École Internationale Le Verseau, Bierges.
Moderator: Kristina Cunningham, Senior Expert for multilingualism, Directorate General for Education, Youth, Sports and Culture

Our main speaker, Fabrice Jaumont, is a French educator, researcher and author, who currently serves as Education Attaché for the Embassy of France to the United States. Fabrice will present his book “The Bilingual Revolution: The Future of Education is in Two Languages” (TBR Books, 2017), which provides inspirational vignettes and practical advice for parents and educators who want to create a dual-language program in their own school. He will show how the increased appetite for bilingual education in urban areas of the US applies to many language communities and ethnic groups and how dual language programs contribute to both equity and high quality education.

Our invited panelists will put his presentation into a European perspective. Together, we shall attempt to apply his findings to the everyday reality of our own children, growing up in an environment where multilingualism and super-diversity is the norm. The session will help participants making informed decisions about their language choices for their children’s educational pathway. They will gain knowledge about the benefits of multilingualism for the cognitive development of all children.
